Valda Rosita Handy Wannamaker Miller, 71, peacefully passed and ascended to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, September 5, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL after a lengthy illness. She was born July 2, 1946 to Roosevelt and Ailys Handy in Martinsville, VA.

Valda was a Christian woman and believed in her salvation with Christ as her Savior. She was presented to the Lord on May 11, 1947 at the Church of the Brethren in Bassett, VA and baptized on October 25, 1981 at the Church of the Brethren in Jacksonville FL. Valda graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and was a bookkeeper by trade. Valda was born in Virginia but Jacksonville was her home where she made a life and raised her children. She loved working for and with all her coworkers at S.H. Kress & Co., Levy Wolf, F. W. Woolworths, Levy Wolf, Riverside Memorial Park, Miller Advertising and Luria's prior to being disabled by diabetes in March 1997.

Valda was a incredible loving and supportive Mom to her three children, son John Wannamaker III, daughter Teresa (Tony-deceased) Wannamaker Alvarez and youngest son, Michael Joseph Miller. She is survived by three Siblings; Joseph Handy, Valeria Galvin, Phyllis (Benjamin) St. John, niece Terri Lynn Handy McGouey, two nephews Tyson (Amber) St. John, Cody Galvin, six grandchildren Jonathan (Raegan) Wannamaker, Jeremy (Brooke) Wannamaker, Izabella Miller, Elijah Miller, Josiah Miller, Anna Alvarez, one great-granddaughter, Amelia Kate Wannamaker, great nephew Christian McGouey and great nieces Summer McGouey, Reegan St. John, daughter in law Somer Miller, and many other loving family and friends. She truly loved and was loved dearly by all her friends and caregivers at Avante.

Mom will always be remembered for her incredible loving ways and spirit, her beautiful blue eyes and smile, a quick wit and humor and how she made everyone feel. Her light radiated brightly and inspired others to love and appreciate every day. Her love remains with us and we are all still under her watchful eye.
