Samuel Jackson Sprout, Sr., age 77, passed away June 16, 2017 in Orange Park, Florida. Samuel was born on May 28, 1940 in Drumore Township, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Navy for 8 ½ years until medical discharge. He served on the USS Ware DD865 and received armed forces expeditionary metal (Vietnam and Cuban Crisis), the Bronze Star National Defense Service Metal, and the Good Conduct Metal. Samuel worked at UNF, as Maintenance Engineer, where he retired. He was a member of Argyle Church of Christ.

Samuel is preceded in death by his parents William and Sylvia Sprout. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Freida W. Sprout; his son Samuel J. Sprout, Jr. and daughter-in-law Bobbie Jean Sprout; daughter Lynette Bruno and son-in-law John Bruno; daughter Patricia Reeves and son-in-law Christopher Reeves; five grandchildren Richard Sprout of Orange Park, Chelsea Bruno of London, UK, Christopher Bruno of Brunswick, Maine, Felicia Reeves of Gainesville, and Jamie Reeves of Orange Park; one great granddaughter Jessa Reeves; and sister Wilma Flahart of Lancaster, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 am at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Pastor Ken Mick will serve as officiant. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
