Lathan Hargette Heath, 78, passed away May 17, 2017 at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on September 11, 1938 in Spring Garden, NC. In 1957, he graduated from Jones Central High School in Trenton, NC and later from Jones College in Jacksonville, FL. He served 20 years of military service with the U.S. Navy and NC National Guard and 28 years of Federal Civil Service at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. Lathan Hargette Heath, 78, passed away May 17, 2017 at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on September 11, 1938 in Spring Garden, NC. In 1957, he graduated from Jones Central High School in Trenton, NC and later from Jones College in Jacksonville, FL. He served 20 years of military service with the U.S. Navy and NC National Guard and 28 years of Federal Civil Service at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. He was Saved and baptized in February of 1959. Lathan was married to Reba Joann for 49 years and he was a loving husband and a wonderful father.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Joann Heath; daughters Gigi Coleen Johnston and Ronnie Wayne Burgess of Elgin, SC and Catherine Celeste Heath of Goldsboro, NC; three sons, Gary Christopher Pedersen of Orange Park, FL, Michael Norman Heath and Robin Angela Heath of Beaufort, SC and William Gerald Heath of Greenville, NC; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, William (WT), Rodolph (Buddy), Dickie Lee; and sister, Brenda. He is preceded in death by his father, Rodolph Heath; mother, Ruth Huffman Heath; brothers, Gerald, Wilbur Grey, James, Gilbert (Billy); and sisters, Merlon (Sissy), Mary Dean, and Ann.

We would like to thank our friends and family for their prayers and support and the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for their care and efforts.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 22 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hardarge-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 23 at 12:00pm at Hardarge-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home followed by interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
